Italy Deserves Some Applause!!
I didn't know that this was any of the United States or Britain's business. Quite frankly, it's not!!
With all due respect to Britain and the United States, this was not their citizen that was taken hostage. This was an Italian citizen whose release the Italian government negotiated for. It's not their business what deal Italy made. They don't get a say!! Italy deserves some applause because at least they cared enough about the welfare of their citizen to actually do everything they could in order to negotiate his release. That's more than I can say for the United States and Britain. They spout the same shit about how they don't negotiate with terrorists. Clearly they don't give a damn whether their citizens who are taken hostage live or die because they never do anything to try and secure their release. I would choose Italy in a heartbeat to negotiate for my life if I were kidnapped.
NEWSFLASH: It wasn't the business of the United States!! It wasn't your right to approve anything. It was Italy's business, and they have the right to do whatever they think that they need to do in order to ensure that their citizen isn't killed. If the United States doesn't like it, too bad!!
ROME (Reuters) - The United States and Britain criticized Italy's hostage deal with the Taliban on Wednesday, saying the release of five guerrillas in exchange for an Italian reporter put NATO troops in danger and encouraged kidnappings.

The U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the release of five "dangerous Taliban operatives" would not have been approved by Washington.
"We did not and do not approve of concessions to terrorists," the official told Italian reporters in Washington, in comments confirmed to Reuters in Rome. "(The concessions) increase the risk to NATO and Afghan troops and the Afghan people."
