Why Can't People Just Tell The Truth?????

Singer Joan Baez was banned from performing in a concert at Walter Reed. And once again nobody knows how to tell the truth.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Folk singer and anti-war activist Joan Baez says she doesn't know why she was not allowed to perform for recovering soldiers recently at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as she planned.

Baez, 66, told the Post in a telephone interview Tuesday that she was not told why she was left off the program by the Army. "There might have been one, there might have been 50 (soldiers) that thought I was a traitor," she told the paper.

In a statement, a Walter Reed spokesman said that leaving Baez out of the program was a matter of logistics.

Baez's manager, Mark Spector, told the Post that Mellencamp's management invited Baez to perform in March and handled all the arrangements. The Post said Mellencamp's manager, Randy Hoffman, did not return calls requesting comment and that Mellencamp's publicist said the singer was ill Tuesday and unavailable.

But Mellencamp earlier told RollingStone.com: "They didn't give me a reason why she couldn't come. We asked why and they said, 'She can't fit here, period.' "

I don't understand why they can't just admit that they didn't want her to perform there because she's an anti-war activist. That's the truth, and not some bullshit about "logistics." Anyone with even half a brain knows why they essentially banned her from performing at Walter Reed. So they need to stop with the BULLSHIT, and start telling the truth because people in this country can see right through their lies.

I agree that truth has to be the standard. Except for some senior sergeants and officers, I doubt any of these people even know Joan Baez, who has one of the most artistically beautiful voices around. Was she scheduled to sing antiwar songs to the returning soldiers?

I see a big difference between Joan Baez speaking generally about the tragedy of war, and a Jane Fonda who reportedly used her popularity to actually coopt American POWs.

But I'm not a general in charge of troops, so will have to rely on their decisions.

Don't you know that we would be winning in 'Raq today if Baez and others like supported the troops more.

The point is, those in charge at Walter Reed didn't want an anti-war activist at the hospital. But rather than tell the truth, they chose to lie. They made up some bullshit story about how it was due to "logistics" and not Baez's anti-war stance.

The military has a rich history of lying, so it's no surprise here that they would lie. I wouldn't rely on their decisions even if it meant the difference between life and death. I'd make my own decision before I'd ever trust them.

You are so right ParisL0ve2, those in charge did not want an anti-war activist at the hospital.

We really cant believe anything this military tells us because of so many lies they have been caught telling.

I was in the Navy during Vietnam. Back then the lifers had such hatred of her, you could practically make them turn purple and have a heart attack just by mentioning her name. (I tried that but it didn't work.)

Maybe it's a small sign of progress that the people at Walter Reed just mumbled some excuse about "logistics." In the early '70s some redfaced lifer would be spitting out every cuss word you ever heard: "we don't want that F$&*#&!#*#$&#$&!! commie in here!"
