NRA: Aiding & Abetting Terrorists

The NRA is aiding and abetting terrorists. What else would you call their plea not to prevent "suspected" terrorists from purchasing guns? If that's not aiding and abetting the terrorists, I don't know what is!!

WASHINGTON - The National Rifle Association is urging the Bush administration to withdraw its support of a bill that would prohibit suspected terrorists from buying firearms.

Backed by the Justice Department, the measure would give the attorney general the discretion to block gun sales, licenses or permits to terror suspects.

What the NRA is essentially saying is that anyone should be allowed to have guns, even those suspected of terrorism.

In a letter this week to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, NRA executive director Chris Cox said the bill, offered last week by Sen. Frank Lautenberg (news, bio, voting record), D-N.J., "would allow arbitrary denial of Second Amendment rights based on mere 'suspicions' of a terrorist threat."

"As many of our friends in law enforcement have rightly pointed out, the word 'suspect' has no legal meaning, particularly when it comes to denying constitutional liberties," Cox wrote.

Really? Tell that to the people in Gitmo Mr. Cox!! They're only "suspected" of being terrorists. Yet, they're caged like animals pretty much 24/7 in another country. They're being denied their liberties. But, I bet the NRA executive director would argue that the situation is totally different. They're not Americans, therefore they're not entitled to any liberties.

Current law requires gun dealers to conduct a criminal background check and deny sales if a gun purchaser falls under a specified prohibition, including a felony conviction, domestic abuse conviction or illegal immigration. There is no legal basis to deny a sale if a purchaser is on a terror watch list.

If you're on a terror watch list you can purchase as many guns as you want. Yet if you're on a terror watch list, you can't fly. Yeah, makes perfect sense to me!! Not!! The "terrorists" can't fly, but they can buy guns and blow the hell out of anyone they damn well please. Nice!!

When is America's love affair with guns going to end? The NRA is so beyond irresponsible with this one!! Remember, guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people. Remember to thank the NRA when you come up against a terrorist who was able to purchase a gun. After all, they were only "suspected" terrorists which means absolutely nothing to the NRA.

So, what does all of this mean? It means the following:

1) People can own as many assault weapons and magazines as they damn well please. Now had the Congress not allowed the Assault Weapons ban to expire, this wouldn't be the case.

2) People don't have to wait to obtain a gun.

3) The attorney general is powerless to do anything about gun control.

4) Guns don't have to undergo ballistic fingerprinting, thus it makes it harder to match a gun to a crime. It means more work for police and forensics when it could be oh so simple.

5) Police can't limit the number of people with guns. Thus, there are more people out there with guns than should be.

6) There are no required child safety measures for guns.

7) Those who manufacture guns can't be held accountable, even if the guns that people obtain and commit crimes with are illegal in this country.

8) Anyone and everyone who wants a gun just needs to go to a gun show in order to get one because they don't have required background checks. Gee, I wonder where the criminals go to get their guns? I can't guess!!

9) Minors can possess and purchase guns to some extent. Wow, and we're supposed to be a country that protects its children? Yeah right!!

10) You can own a gun without a permit.

11) No city is allowed to create and enforce a gun law that is stricter than that of the state, even if the intention of the gun law is to prevent death or injury. Nice!!

12) Police aren't necessarily required to keep track of gun purchases. Thus, there is really no trail to follow when a gun related crime occurs.

13) You don't have to register your gun with the police. Thus, they don't give a shit whether or not you own a gun.

14) There are no safety standards to follow when purchasing a gun. Thus, once it leaves the store, they don't give a shit what happens with that gun. They don't care if you accidently kill yourself or your family. They don't care if you accidently injure yourself or your family. They don't care if you commit a crime with that gun. Oops, you're dead? Oh well!!

15) You don't have to take any gun safety classes. Thus, they don't give a shit what you do with that gun. Again, you're dead? Oh well!!

16) You can pretty much own any kind of gun there is out there, without limit.

17) You can't carry a gun onto any school property, even if you have a conceal/carry permit. Thus, the argument that if only someone at Virginia Tech had a gun on them this massacre may have been prevented doesn't hold any water. They wouldn't have been allowed to carry a gun on campus.
18) If you purchase a gun from someone else, you don't have to undergo a background check. Thus, anyone and everyone who wants to obtain a gun can just go to a "private" individual and purchase the gun.
