U.S. Double Standards At Its Finest!!

Last week I blogged several times about the wife of an American soldier being threatened with deportation, and then being allowed to stay and seek residency. This week, the double standard is rearing its ugly head.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- All of her life, Zoila Meyer believed she was an American. She even won election to the City Council of Adelanto.

But now she is facing a threat of deportation for illegally voting, because she never became a citizen after being brought to this country from Cuba when she was 1 year old.

"To be honest with you, I'm scared. How can they just pluck me out of my family, my kids?" the 40-year-old mother of four said in a telephone interview Friday.

"If they can do this to me, they can do it to anybody," she said.

After Meyer was elected to the council in Adelanto in 2004, someone told officials that she was born in Cuba, prompting an investigation.

Eventually, "the police came to me and said, 'Zoila, you're not a citizen. You're a legal resident but you're not a citizen,"' said Meyer, who now lives in the San Bernardino County desert town of Apple Valley, near Adelanto.

She resigned after 10 weeks in office in Adelanto, a town of about 23,000.

Meyer, whose story was first reported in the Victorville Daily Press, applied to become a naturalized citizen and continued with her life: raising her children and attending two local colleges to earn degrees toward her goal of working in the justice system as a forensic nurse.

However, because she was not a citizen, Meyer faced a felony charge of illegally voting in the 2004 election.

In April 2006, she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of fraudulent voting and was placed on probation, fined and ordered to pay restitution.

What Meyer didn't realize is that fraudulently voting is a deportable offense.

On June 18, Meyer said, immigration officials showed up at her home and told her to appear at their San Bernardino office.

Her husband drove her to the office on Tuesday, "and they handcuffed me," Meyer said. "They put me in jail and they frisked me and processed me."

"I said 'You're doing this because I voted?"'

The case is unusual but immigration officials were just doing their job when they arrested Meyer, said Lori Haley, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"People are arrested on immigration charges from all walks of life," she said. "She can plead her case before an immigration judge, if she feels that she has reason to seek release for removal. ... Everybody has due process when they're arrested."

Meyer was released pending a July 18 appearance before an immigration judge who will determine whether she will be deported to Canada, the last point of entry into the U.S. recorded in her immigration record.

Meyer said she and her parents had visited Canada and she had gone many times to Mexico without anyone ever asking her to prove her citizenship.

Meyer said she does not support illegal immigration but she thinks immigration procedures should be changed to prevent misunderstandings.

"It makes me feel like we're all just numbers," she said of her case. "I see people writing 'this is my country.' It really isn't. It belongs to the government and they decide who stays and who goes ... you think you're free; you're really not."

On the one hand you have a woman who knowingly came to this country ILLEGALLY. She's being allowed to stay in the United States and seek residency simply because her husband is in the military and is missing in Iraq. On the other hand, you have a woman who came here LEGALLY, and is being threatened with deportation and will likely be deported simply because she thought she was a citizen and dared to vote. To make matters worse for her, if she is deported she will be deported to Canada. She's not from Canada. But she will deported to Canada because that was the last place recorded on her immigration record when she was a child. So, she will be deported to Canada and will most likely be faced with yet another deportation back to Cuba.

Double standards? Nah!!!!! Not quite!! This is absolute BULLSHIT. It just goes to show that the military gets special treatment. They and their spouses appear to be above the law. And people like Zoila Meyer will be deported, families will be torn apart, and lives will be ruined. ISN'T AMERICA GREAT????????????????????

Update On Deportation Of Missing Solder's Wife

As if this couldn't get more ridiculous, it has!! This time, John Kerry has decided to step in on her behalf. This has reached an asinine point!!

WASHINGTON — Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., has asked the Department of Homeland Security not to deport the wife of an Army specialist who is missing in Iraq while the search continues for him, his office said Wednesday.

"Under no condition should our country ever deport the spouse of a soldier who is currently serving in uniform abroad," Kerry said, in a statement provided to FOXNews.com.

In the letter to Chertoff, Kerry wrote: "I do not believe that Yaderlin should have her stress and grief compounded by additional worries about her own immigration status. I request that no further action be taken (in) Yaderlin's case while her husband is missing in action. As Yaderlin waits to hear what has happened to her husband I ask that she be allowed to stay in our country."

"I believe this is a very real test of our government's compassion for a military family which has already made enormous sacrifices for the United States," the letter continued.

Another immigration attorney said only an act of Congress would ensure the wife's legal status in the United States.

"Unless Congress passes a private bill on her behalf, she is subject to deportation," said Charles Kuck, an immigration lawyer and president-elect of the Washington, D.C.-based American Immigration Lawyers Association. The group has more than 10,000 members.

Morris said Kerry's office is "taking it one step at a time," and could consider other options including a private bill, although this letter seemed to be the fastest method available.

First of all, how fucking dare Kerry insinuate that this woman is deserving of remaining in this country illegally simply because she's a military spouse and her husband is missing. She came here illegally, period!!

This is just another example of the double standards this country has when it comes to the military. They can get away with anything they want, and to hell with everyone else.

If Congress passes a private bill that would essentially make her a legal citizen, I will demand that they're all fired!! They won't do it for other illegal immigrants, but they'll do it for a military spouse? Bullshit!!

Let me ask this question though. Does Mr. Kerry give a shit that this country DEPORTED ONE OF THEIR OWN CITIZENS TO MEXICO LAST MONTH? Hell no!! If he cares so much about not deporting people, perhaps he will volunteer his own ass to go down to Mexico and search for Pedro Guzman. Oh wait, he's not the spouse of a military person. He's just a U.S. citizen who is mentally disabled and was DEPORTED ILLEGALLY TO MEXICO BY THIS DUMBASS GOVERNMENT WHO THINKS THEY DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG. How about that Mr. Kerry? Are you going to demand his return to the United States? You can't be bothered!!

John Kerry can shove his letter up his ass. If he's going to let this woman stay, every ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT is going to stay. Otherwise, everyone including this woman is GOING.

Double Standards For The Military?

It seems that this country has double standards when it comes to illegal immigrants. Or, they're about to have double standards!!

BOSTON – The wife of a soldier missing in Iraq could face deportation, her lawyer told a television station.

Army Spec. Alex Jimenez, who has been missing since his unit was attacked by insurgents in Iraq on May 12, had petitioned for a green card for his wife, Yaderlin, whom he married in 2004, Boston's WBZ-TV reported Tuesday.

Their attorney, Matthew Kolken, said Yaderlin illegally entered the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2001. Her husband's request for a green card and legal residence status for her alerted authorities to her situation, Kolken said.

She entered this country illegally six years ago. She's illegal!! Why should she be treated any differently than others who have come here illegally? Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people coming here. But, her attorney is making a case for a complete double standard.

The attorney said his client would not be eligible for a green card under normal circumstances, but he is seeking a hardship waiver for her. If she were to have to leave the U.S., she would have to wait 10 years before reapplying.

“I can't imagine a bigger injustice than that, to be deporting someone's wife who is fighting and possibly dying for our country,” Kolken told the station.

Oh I see, if you're in the military and you have an illegal spouse, that's okay!! Give me a fucking break!! So, it's a huge injustice to deport this woman who came here illegally in 2001 simply because her husband CHOSE to join the military, CHOSE to go to Iraq, and is now missing? But it's not a huge injustice to deport or threaten to deport people from other countries, MEXICO especially, despite the fact that you would be breaking up entire families by deporting them? It's not a huge injustice to deport parents back to Mexico while leaving their children in the United States because they're American citizens? No!! That's completely acceptable. But because this woman's husband is a soldier and is now missing, it's completely horrible that we would even dare to deport her.

I'm all for people coming to this country. I don't care if they're here legally or not. This is a country made up of immigrants from all over the world, and I would welcome anyone. But for this person to sit here and say that she deserves SPECIAL TREATMENT simply because her husband is in the military and is missing is one big CROCK OF SHIT!! If you're going to throw everyone out who is illegal, she needs to go too. Otherwise, let everyone stay instead of just letting only her stay or anyone like her stay.

This country has major double standards, especially when it comes to the military!!
