Journalists Sentenced In North Korea
I, like many people today, do not feel sorry for the two U.S. journalists who were tried, convicted, and sentenced in North Korea.
The United States, as usual, will piss and whine. They will threaten North Korea. They will do everything except acknowledge the fact that these WOMEN (not girls) entered another country illegally, and thus they are GUILTY of breaking the laws of North Korea.
It is not for the United States to determine guilt or innocence. It is not for the United States to decide upon a punishment. It is for North Korea and ONLY North Korea to do so since the crime was committed in NORTH KOREA.
Hillary Clinton is demanding their release on "humanitarian" grounds. Really? Why? Because they're women? Because one has a child? Because they're AMERICANS? Of course!! It doesn't matter that they're women. They committed a crime. Gender has no bearing on punishment. It doesn't matter that one has a child. Quite frankly, she should have thought about that before she made the decision to do what she did. What she really means is that they should be released because they're Americans, and Americans can do whatever they want. It doesn't matter what country they're in, or what the laws of the country are. Americans think that they are above the law no matter what they do.
North Korea tried them and sentenced them. That's far more than I can say for the United States. We have prisoners in our possession that have yet to be charged. We have prisoners who aren't allowed to see a lawyer. We have prisoners who aren't allowed contact with family. We have prisoners who haven't seen the inside of a courtroom, be it military or civilian. We have tortured many of these prisoners. We took children and threw them in Gitmo.
North Korea doesn't have to hand them over. North Korea doesn't have to negotiate. North Korean is NOT in the wrong here. And the United States has no room to talk.
It really is simple. If you obey the laws of other countries when you're there, you won't find yourself in trouble. If you can't obey the law, don't go there. Oh, and make sure that you have permission to be there!!

I was under the impression that no one really knows if the journalists were in North Korean teritory or not. At least I cannot find anything verifying it one way or the other.
Can you point to the info that verifies the journalists were actually on the wrong side of the border?

You were under the impression that nobody really knows if they crossed into North Korea? Why? Because that's what the media in this country keeps touting? Because that's what the family is touting? Because that's what the White House is touting?
Of course you're not going to find any stories, at least not from US-related media that will confirm it.

Actually, I'm under that impression because North Korea hasn't provided any proof other than the rhetoric and belligerence it is famous for...
You'd think, given its tenuous relationship with the world, North Korea would want to make it very clear via proof that it is in the right to ease tensions. Unless, or course, it knows its claims are not provable, or completely false or it is purposely wanting to provoke the world...
I don't argue that it NK's right to enforce its own laws...without interferance from the outside world. And the journalists were nutz to see if Korea would blink and ignore them. All Korea has to do to make the US shut up is to provide the proof.
So I ask you again - where are you getting your proof that they did actually tresspass, aside from North Korea's claims that they did?

I'm reporting what's been reported.
Really? It's that simple? The U.S. is going to shut up if it provides evidence that they were in North Korea? Not!!
Allow me to spell it out for you!!
THE UNITED STATES REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT IT'S EVEN REMOTELY POSSIBLE THAT THESE WOMEN WERE IN NORTH KOREA. THE UNITED STATES REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT IT'S A CRIME IF THEY WERE IN NORTH KOREA ILLEGALLY. THE UNITED STATES IS NOT GOING TO SHUT UP AND GO AWAY IF NORTH KOREA HANDS OVER PROOF.
While we're on the subject of handing over proof of guilt, when is the United States going to present proof of guilt for all the Gitmo detainees? Oh that's right!! They don't have any proof!! By their own admission, they can't release many of the detainees because they just don't have the evidence to prove that they're guilty.
But silly me!! I forgot!! The United States is above International Law. The United States is above its own laws. We don't have to follow any laws because we're in a class all by ourselves!!
All we have to do is declare that releasing proof of guilt would be a threat to our national security. I wonder if that same argument would fly if it came out of North Korea's mouth.
And according to one of the anchors on CNN Headline News, they weren't in North Korea illegally. They're Americans, and as Americans we are entitled to go to any country and film whatever we want because we have First Amendment Rights throughout the world.
Never mind that they didn't have a visa in order to enter North Korea. Never mind that they didn't have permission to be there. They're Americans and can do whatever they damn well please!!
I'll leave you with this little tidbit to chew on. If they weren't in North Korea and did absolutely nothing wrong, why is it that their cameraman (I'm assuming he worked for Current TV considering that they were doing the piece for Current TV) and their guide took off running? Why didn't they stick around to defend themselves and the women against these "bogus" charges?
I don't need a response because I already know what it will be!!
